Local SEO

Local SEO

Get found by the customers who are already nearby.

When someone searches “chiropractor near me” or “cleaning company in Nanaimo,” they are ready to book. Local SEO decides whether they find you or the business down the road. I make sure it is you.

OUR PROCESS

What SEO actually is

Local SEO is how you show up when someone nearby searches for what you do. Not nationally, not globally, but in your city and your service area. It matters most for businesses where distance decides everything. Nobody drives 50 kilometres for a cleaner or a chiropractor. They pick someone close, and they pick them from Google.

01
You appear in the Map Pack

Those three businesses at the top of local results take most of the clicks. Getting in there changes more than anything else you can do.

02
You reach people ready to act

Someone searching "emergency plumber" at 9pm is not comparing options for next month. Local searches turn into calls faster than almost any other traffic.

03
It keeps working when you stop paying

Turn off Google Ads and the calls stop that day. Local SEO builds over months and stays.

04
It builds trust before they call

A complete profile, real reviews, details that match everywhere. People check all of it before they pick up the phone.

Why local SEO looks different for every business

A chiropractor and a cleaning company are both local businesses, and almost nothing about their local SEO is the same. People search for a chiropractor by symptom, often at night, often in pain, and they read reviews carefully before booking. People search for a commercial cleaner by contract type and schedule, compare two or three, and decide on a phone call. Different words, different urgency, different pages, different proof. The same applies to a dentist versus a mobile mechanic, or a roofer versus a daycare. This is why a template never works. I look at how your specific customers search before deciding what to build.

MY PROCESS

I don’t guess. I find what's missing, fix it, and keep adjusting.

Local SEO works when the basics are right and kept right. I fix what’s holding your business back, track where your calls and visits come from, and keep improving what brings in real customers.

Find out what's actually missing

Almost every local business I audit is missing basics, not advanced tactics. The city name is nowhere in the content. Title tags still say "Home" or "Services." There are no backlinks at all. You get a plain list of what is broken, in priority order, before any work starts.

Fix the Google Business Profile

Most profiles were set up once and never touched. No photos, no posts, services not listed, hours wrong, reviews unanswered. This is your single biggest local asset and usually the fastest thing to improve.

Fix the site, then get listed

Your city and services written properly into your content, titles and meta descriptions rewritten, local schema added, business details consistent everywhere. Then submissions to the basic directories most businesses skip, plus the niche ones for your trade that pass real local authority.

Build reviews and links, then track it

A system for asking for reviews and responding to them. Local links from your chamber, suppliers and community. Then monthly reporting on calls, direction requests, rankings and traffic, so you can see what changed.

IT’S NOT ONE THING

Local SEO isn't one task. It's four, and most businesses are missing three.

People hear “local SEO” and picture one job. It is really four separate pieces of work, and they feed each other. Your profile needs your website to back it up. Your website needs directories and reviews to prove it is real. Skip one and the others underperform.

Do customers come to you, or do you go to them? → It changes everything about how this gets built.

A clinic with a waiting room and a mobile mechanic who drives to the customer need completely different setups. One needs an address, opening hours and directions. The other needs a service area, coverage pages and a profile configured so Google knows where you actually work. Getting this wrong is one of the most common reasons service area businesses never rank.

Google Business Profile

Your most important local asset. Categories, services, photos, posts, Q&A and reviews, all kept current rather than set up once.

On-page local SEO

Your city and services written into your content, titles and meta descriptions, local schema markup, and location pages for every area you serve.

Citations and directories

The basic ones almost nobody completes, plus the niche directories for your trade, with your name, address and phone number matching everywhere.

Reviews and local links

A system for earning reviews and replying to them, plus links from your chamber, suppliers and local community that prove you exist beyond your own website.

So which parts do you need?

Usually all four, but not in equal measure and not all at once. When I audit a local business the same gaps come up again and again. The city name missing from the content. Title tags never written. Zero backlinks. Not listed in Bing Places or Apple Maps. No niche directory presence at all. A profile half filled in three years ago. None of it is advanced. It is simply nobody’s job until it is. I start with whichever of those is costing you the most, and we work down the list from there.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does local SEO take to work?

You will usually see movement in your Google Business Profile and local rankings within 60 to 90 days. Real, compounding results build over 4 to 6 months. The basics, like directory submissions and profile fixes, can show up sooner than that.

Some of it, yes, and it is genuinely worth doing. Completing your Google Business Profile properly and submitting to the main directories is a weekend of work. The parts that take experience are keyword research, competitor analysis, and knowing which fixes actually move rankings rather than just feeling productive.

Regular SEO competes nationally or globally for broad terms. Local SEO competes for people near you, which brings in a whole extra layer: your Google Business Profile, your directory listings, your reviews, and your physical location or service area. A business serving one city needs the local version.

NAP stands for Name, Address and Phone number. Google cross-checks these across your site, your profile and every directory. Even small differences, like “St” in one place and “Street” in another, can hold your rankings back.

Any business where customers have to be nearby. Chiropractors, physiotherapists, dentists and clinics. Cleaning and janitorial companies. Plumbers, electricians, HVAC and roofers. Landscapers, movers, pest control, mobile mechanics. Daycares, gyms, salons and vets.

How much does local SEO cost?

It depends on your market, how many areas you serve and how much needs fixing. A business with a decent website and a half-finished profile needs far less than one starting from nothing. I will give you an honest number after looking at your site, along with what you can realistically expect.

The Map Pack is the three businesses Google shows on a map at the top of local search results. It sits above the regular results, which is why getting into it is the highest-impact thing most local businesses can do.

No. If you travel to customers, like a cleaner or a mobile mechanic, you set a service area in your Google Business Profile instead of showing an address. I work with both kinds of business, and the setup is genuinely different for each.

Yes. Google looks at how many you have, how recent they are, your average rating, and whether you reply. They also decide whether someone picks you over the business listed next to you, so they work twice.

Usually, yes. Established rankings are not locked in. I look at exactly what is keeping them ahead and work through that list. It takes months rather than weeks, but it is very doable.
